Seven years after the film Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the new series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters reintroduces a formidable Titan to the Monsterverse. The show explores whether humans and these massive creatures can truly share the world, especially after the chaotic events of ‘G-Day’. This question is particularly relevant to Cate and Kentaro Randa, who discover their family has a long history connected to the Titans, dating back to the 1940s. By the end of the second season, the Randa siblings are at odds, as Kentaro goes off on his own, convinced he can rescue his father using the mysterious Axis Mundi.
Kentaro is collaborating with Isabel Simmons, but she’s secretly using him. Isabel isn’t interested in peace with Titans or actual time travel; she only wants to exploit the Axis Mundi to create a rejuvenating product she can sell for profit. The season ends with Kentaro and Isabel traveling to a secluded place to find a specific Titan that viewers will recognize.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Brings Back Rodan

Rodan, a well-known giant flying creature from the Monsterverse (last seen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters), is being featured. This powerful Titan has strong ties to volcanoes and fire, and is known for being both intelligent and a fierce fighter. While Rodan originally fought alongside Ghidorah, it ultimately yielded to Godzilla. The organization Monarch discovered Rodan sleeping inside a volcano on Isla de Mara and observed it for years before it woke up, as shown in the movie and related materials.
The last episodes of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follow Lee Shaw as he chases Isabel and Kentaro to an active volcano where Rodan now lives. It’s unknown if this is the original Rodan or a new one, but based on the Monsterverse timeline, it’s probably a different creature of the same kind. Regardless, Lee learns that Isabel and Kentaro are willing to risk destroying the world, and with Rodan around, that threat feels very real.
Each season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters usually highlights one particular Titan, with others appearing in supporting roles. Season 1 centered on Godzilla, Season 2 featured Titan X, and it looks like the upcoming Season 3 will focus on Rodan. This is interesting because Toho still owns the rights to Rodan and only licenses it to Legendary, suggesting a special agreement was made, similar to the one for Rodan’s appearance in the movie. It will be exciting to learn more about Rodan, who is one of the more mysterious Titans in the Monsterverse, within the Monarch series.
