From the heart of New York City, it’s Jenna Bush Hager getting candid about being a working mom.
Savannah Guthrie, the host of Today, became emotional while discussing the challenges of being a working mother. She and her husband, Henry Hager, have three children: Mila, 13, Poppy, 10, and Hal, 6.
Jenna explained to Sheinelle Jones on the April 30th episode of Today with Jenna and Sheinelle that she’s been very busy with filming, interviews, and working on a book. She realized when she woke up that her priority for the next few weeks and months would be focusing on her kids.
Honestly, I’m just so moved by Poppy’s situation. Thinking about how to best support her is really getting to me – I’m actually tearing up just talking about it. I feel so lost and confused about why I’m reacting so strongly, I don’t even understand what’s wrong with myself.
Jenna, who juggles a busy career that includes reporting for a daytime show, acting in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and producing for NBC’s Protection, didn’t face this challenge by herself.
After all, Sheinelle swiftly embraced the journalist into a hug as she regained her composure.
“We’re doing alright,” said Jenna, 44, with a laugh. “Things might seem good on the surface, but honestly, it’s a bit chaotic behind the scenes.”
Sheinelle, who has three children with her late husband, Uche Ojeh, understood what her coworker was saying.
“We can’t do it all at once,” Sheinelle reassured her, “but we’re doing it.”

Sheinelle, 48, recently talked about the strong support system within the Today family, including colleagues like Jenna, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin. This close bond was especially evident when Uche was fighting glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, before sadly passing away in May 2025.
Sheinelle shared in a recent interview that her colleagues were a huge support during a difficult time when her husband was ill. She specifically mentioned Al bringing breakfast to the hospice where they were, and Savannah being there for them immediately after the first operation.
She emphasized of their chemistry that audiences have come to love on TV, “It’s not just pretend.”

For eighteen months, while Uche fought her illness, Sheinelle’s coworkers at Today supported her and her family, even before the news became public.
It’s like, she confided in me, and it was everything. She said they did it when no one else was around, and it just…broke my heart. Everyone thought they knew what was happening, but they had no idea the full story. She wasn’t ever truly alone, though. They were always there, helping with the kids, even just making dinner. It was constant, and she needed it, and knowing that… it’s just everything.
Sheinelle added, “When it’s time to rally around each other, we do it.”
