‘You Ruined One of My Favourite Games’: eFootball’s Bizarre Naruto Crossover Attracts a Strong Response

Because eFootball is free to play, the game developers often change things up to try and get new people interested.

One way they’re trying to boost engagement is with a new crossover event, combining elements from Captain Tsubasa and Naruto. This has already generated a lot of buzz among fans.

This event features new home field decorations, letting you customize your stadium with anime characters and themes.

Plus, the game now includes collectible player cards showcasing famous footballers such as Neymar Jr and Takefusa Kubo, allowing for collaborative gameplay.

The game features over-the-top celebrations after scoring, and you can activate ‘Stunning Shots’ to add special effects like lightning to powerful long-distance goals.

Unsurprisingly, purists are not particularly enamoured with the change.

“Very cool, Konami,” one wrote on social media. “You ruined my favourite game.”

As a long-time fan, I’ve seen a lot of people frustrated that the game is focusing on team-up events instead of what we’ve been asking for – proper single-player modes. It’s disappointing because when Master League finally came back, it wasn’t the full experience we hoped for, and it was only available for a limited time.

However, some fans have come to Konami’s defense, pointing out that previous popular games like Pro Evolution Soccer 6 also included silly unlockable items, such as penguin and ostrich costumes.

While PES has consistently offered strong gameplay, it’s generally been a bit more over-the-top than EA Sports’ FIFA, mainly because it hasn’t had the official licenses for teams and players.

The Naruto-themed event is happening now and lasts until May 14th. Just so you know, the special shot animations are visible only to you – your opponents won’t see them. However, everyone will be able to enjoy the celebratory features.

Personally, we’re not opposed to stuff like this.

Although Konami could likely focus its efforts on other areas, content like this does generate interest – as evidenced by you reading this article. Plus, eFootball isn’t as restricted in its approach as the more traditional EA Sports FC, giving it more flexibility.
