Don’t worry, darling—Olivia Wilde understood the assignment at Met Gala 2026.
The director of Booksmart made a statement at the Met Gala in New York City, wearing a Thom Browne gown with a unique, structured cage detail at the back. The outfit fit the night’s “Costume Art” theme and “Fashion Is Art” dress code. (See all the celebrity looks here.)
Naturally, many fans couldn’t help but dote on Olivia’s unique take of the theme.
One fan raved on X, calling Olivia Wilde stunning and praising her flawless outfit, noting that her Thom Browne clothes fit perfectly.
Someone else commented with excitement, saying Olivia Wilde stunned everyone with a dress that was fashionable from the front and a total party in the back.
Olivia has been attending the Met Gala for nearly 20 years, first appearing in 2007 in a black halter dress. Over the years, her fashion choices have become increasingly daring and confident.
Consider her look at the 2015 Met Gala: she wore a stunning pink Prada gown with a low neckline, decorated with large gems. She completed the outfit with equally sparkly black gloves and a matching Prada clutch, all inspired by the event’s theme of Chinese art and culture.
The next year, she chose a strikingly modern black Michael Kors dress with a bold metal collar and silver details for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology” exhibition.

At the 2023 Met Gala, Olivia Wilde didn’t seem bothered at all when she and Vogue China‘s editor-in-chief, Margaret Zhang, both showed up wearing very similar Chloé dresses. She handled the potential fashion mishap with ease.

Although the two women wore dresses of different colors, both featured striking deep cutouts decorated with a gold violin pattern. This design was a signature of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, and the event was held to celebrate his career.
Olivia shared on Instagram, “It’s awesome to coordinate with someone – definitely choose @margaretzhang!”
Besides, Olivia was just flattered to have been invited to the prestigious fashion fundraiser.
“I just feel so lucky,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “This is just a wonderful time.”
