Joe Alwyn Returns to Met 10 Years After Meeting Taylor Swift Inside

I was so excited to see him at the Met Gala! It’s been a full decade since he last walked the red carpet, and he was there for the 2026 event celebrating the amazing “Costume Art” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. As a huge fan of his work, especially in Hamnet, it was a real moment!

Joe looked sharp and stylish as he posed outside the Met Gala. He wore a tan top with black pants, and a gold sash that really stood out. He completed his outfit with a touch of pink makeup around his eyes, fitting the event’s “Fashion Is Art” theme. (You can see photos of all the stars at the Met Gala here.)

People wondered if the 35-year-old would attend the Met Gala this year after he was seen leaving The Mark Hotel – a popular pre-Gala hangout for celebrities – a few days before the May 4th event.

For Joe, the Met Gala holds a special meaning. He last went in 2016 with his Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk co-star, Garrett Hedlund, and that’s reportedly where his six-year relationship with Taylor Swift started.

Many fans think Taylor Swift and Matty Healy first met at the 2023 Met Gala. This belief comes from a line in her song “Dress” – “Flashback when you met me / Your buzzcut and my hair bleached” – which seems to describe how they both looked at that year’s event.

Their relationship eventually ended in 2023, and she is now engaged to Travis Kelce. He later explained why he hadn’t talked much about their romance or split.

You know, my partner and I made a conscious decision early on to keep certain parts of our relationship just for us. We both felt strongly that those intimate details weren’t meant for public consumption, and honestly, I still feel the same way. It’s never been about turning our personal life into a product, and I don’t see any reason to start now. It’s about protecting what’s special to us, and that means keeping some things private.

He acknowledged that there will always be a difference between what people know and what they express, and he’s come to terms with that reality.

Taylor Swift has primarily expressed her feelings about her six-year relationship through her music, but she did recently share some insights about her 2023 breakups with both Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy in her Eras Tour: End of an Era documentary.

Taylor shared in the documentary that at times, the tour was the only thing helping her through a difficult period in her life. However, she clarified that she never considered stopping the tour because it was challenging professionally. Her struggles were happening in her personal life, not with the tour itself.

She shared that she experienced two breakups during the first part of the tour. She admitted that was a lot to deal with, and explained that performing gave her a reason to keep going. Surprisingly, the tour itself wasn’t the difficult part – it actually helped her find meaning and focus amidst personal struggles.
