Lauren Sánchez Bezos was ready to stop, drop and pose ahead of the 2026 Met Gala.
Before walking the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art at the “Costume Art” gala on May 4th, Jeff Bezos’ wife had a rather unusual pre-party experience.
Lauren shared with Vogue that she prepared for the Met Gala by visiting and completing training with the New York Fire Department, calling it ‘the most unique Met prep ever.’
I was so impressed to see the 56-year-old complete the full New York Fire Department training! It was incredible – they went through everything, from putting on all the heavy gear and navigating that challenging, smoky obstacle course, to practicing how to save lives. It was truly inspiring to watch.
“It was bananas, but I loved it,” Lauren added. “I probably lost about two pounds doing it.”
The journalist volunteered not just to participate, but to support the fire department and show their gratitude.
Okay, you guys, I seriously just spent the day training with the FDNY! It was for these amazing charities, Leary Firefighters Foundation and the FDNY Foundation, and let me tell you, these firefighters are intense! I posted a video, but it doesn’t even begin to show how seriously they take things. They. Do. Not. Mess. Around. It was incredible!
Lauren shared that the experience offered a brief but powerful look at the dedication, resilience, and bravery of firefighters. To celebrate International Firefighters’ Day on May 4th, she expressed her gratitude to all firefighters for their commitment and service.
Lauren, one of the Met Gala’s co-chairs, paid tribute to the classic painting Madame X by John Singer Sargent with her outfit. She wore a midnight blue gown designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli.
Following the Met Gala’s “Fashion Is Art” theme, Lauren’s outfit featured a fitted corset inspired by a famous painting, with a jeweled strap draped over her shoulder. She completed the look with simple elegance, accessorizing with Lorraine Schwartz earrings. (You can see photos of all the stars at the Met Gala here.)
Although she posed alone on the Metropolitan Museum steps, she was later joined inside by her husband, Jeff, who also served as an honorary co-chair. The Amazon founder wore a traditional black tuxedo and bow tie for the Met Gala.
