Crunchyroll’s Major Series Creator Unveils New Look At Beloved Character Ahead of Anime Sequel

After a 16-year run, Kusanagi Mizuho’s popular fantasy manga, Yona of the Dawn, finished its story on December 19th, 2025. The series, which began in 2009, was praised for its beautiful artwork, compelling story, and endearing characters. It gained even more fans in 2014 with an anime adaptation, and after over a decade of waiting, a sequel was announced alongside the manga’s ending. While details about the second season are still forthcoming, a side story continues the characters’ adventures after the main story’s conclusion. Mizuho remains active on X (formerly Twitter), frequently sharing updates and new artwork. Recently, she shared birthday illustrations for characters Kija and Yona, who have birthdays close together. Due to her busy schedule, she released both on April 22nd, and the posts quickly gained thousands of likes. The illustrations feature the characters in new outfits and a softer color palette. As April ends, Mizuho is also teasing a birthday illustration for Jae-Ha, calling him the group’s oldest brother, which fans can expect around May 4th.
