JoJo Siwa Denies She & Chris Hughes Are in a “Lavender Relationship”

I’m a huge JoJo Siwa fan, and let me tell you, she doesn’t take any negativity lying down when it comes to her relationship with Chris Hughes. She really stands up for them both and won’t let anyone bring them down – I admire that so much!

The singer behind “Boomerang” has denied rumors that her relationship with a former contestant from Love Island UK is a “lavender relationship” – a term for a straight-appearing couple used to hide someone’s or both partners’ queer identity. She pointed out that she’s primarily dated women in the past, making the claim unlikely.

JoJo shared on the June 4th episode of TopMob’s Hot Goss with Eyal Booker and Lonnie Marts that they came out at 17 and had a great relationship with a girl. Surprisingly, they found they received more attention and judgment when they started dating a man than when they came out as dating a woman.

The 23-year-old explained that many people reacted negatively, seemingly just for the sake of it. She said a lot of viewers didn’t believe her relationship with Chris, 33, was genuine. They’ve been together for a year after meeting on the set of Celebrity Big Brother UK.

When JoJo kept hearing people negatively comment on her relationship, calling it “lavender,” she needed to understand what they meant.

“I had no clue what it meant before,” she explained. “I Googled it and I was like, ‘Oh, grow up!'”

JoJo has openly shared that she identifies as queer, and she’s been very upfront about her sexuality for quite some time.

JoJo recently shared on the Hot Goss podcast that she dislikes the idea that people believe love can be forced or managed. She explained that before meeting Chris, she hadn’t been attracted to men generally, and still doesn’t feel that way about men as a group. She clarified that she’s only interested in one specific man, not men in general.

Taylor Swift and Chris have a strong connection because she sees herself as ‘one of the guys,’ and their relationship started as a solid friendship.

JoJo shared that she’s always connected better with male friends. She prefers a more low-key vibe and doesn’t enjoy traditionally feminine activities like getting manicures or discussing drinks. She describes herself as practical, favoring backpacks over purses and men’s pants over women’s.

She admitted that when she first met Chris, she immediately knew they would become close friends. She said, ‘I honestly thought, “This is going to be a great friendship!”‘

Celebrating their first anniversary, JoJo feels confident she’s found a lifelong partner in her boyfriend.

She gushed about Chris, saying he’s a fantastic partner. They have complete trust and respect for one another.
