House Of The Dragon Season 4 Episode Count & Filming Window Teased For “Biggest” Game Of Thrones Spinoff Finale

House of the Dragon season 4 gets an intriguing update from executive producer Ryan Condal.

Fans of the Game of Thrones universe are excited for the third season of House of the Dragon, which will feature epic dragon battles across Westeros. The eight-episode season premieres on Sunday, June 21st, on HBO and will also be available to stream on HBO Max. However, this is just one part of a much larger story to come.

According to Condal, the hit Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, will conclude after its fourth season. While they haven’t started filming the final season yet, some clues about what’s coming have already surfaced.

In a recent interview with Deadline, showrunner Ryan Condal discussed his plans for season 4. He said the episode count will likely be around the same as previous seasons of the HBO series, but the scope and overall ambition will be much larger. Season 1 of House of the Dragon had ten episodes, while seasons 2 and 3 each had eight.

While at the Enders Leaders Conference in London, executive producer and showrunner Condal stated that the upcoming season will be their largest yet. He also mentioned that filming could begin next spring, and explained how weather conditions influence the production timeline. More details from his comments are available below.

As a fan, it’s always interesting to hear about how they make the show! From what I understand, filming is really at the mercy of the weather here, especially the daylight. They have to start each season in the spring and finish before the days get too short. And since it takes over a year to get everything ready and actually film, it naturally falls into this specific time of year for us.

Currently, Condal is working on the scripts for season four. While he’s extended his contract with HBO to create more shows through 2029, he suggests he might be finished with the Game of Thrones universe, stating, “Anything could happen, but I feel I’ve told the stories I wanted to tell about Westeros.”

As the original Game of Thrones series nears its end, season 3 of House of the Dragon will feature Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) as the ruler of the Iron Throne, while Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) strengthens her forces with more dragons. This sets the scene for the Battle of the Gullet, where several key characters from House of the Dragon will clash.

The fantasy drama, starring Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and Harry Collett, is consistently popular on HBO, attracting millions of viewers per episode. Everyone is eager to find out what happens after the upcoming war in House of the Dragon.
