Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is launching soon with a refreshed take on the extraction shooter genre. The popular DMZ mode is back, offering a new way to experience this style of gameplay within the Call of Duty universe.
We don’t have many details yet, but we’ll learn more about it at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026.
For now, here is what Infinity Ward has said about the mode.
CoD MW4 DMZ explained
Infinity Ward calls DMZ the ultimate Call of Duty experience for scavenging and fighting to escape, creating a unique and ever-changing battlefield where each attempt feels like a new adventure.
Explore a war-torn zone, either by yourself or with a team, searching for powerful technology. The zone is dynamic, with shifting goals, unpredictable weather, and challenging AI opponents, offering a mix of player-versus-environment and player-versus-player combat.
Gathering items in the game carries risks – if you’re defeated while carrying them, you’ll lose everything permanently, so you need to stay alert for enemies. It’s still unclear exactly how DMZ will be different from other games of this type, but we’ll share more details after the Xbox Games Showcase.
