Anna Faris Details “Deadly” Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Scare

Anna Faris is recalling a terrifying health scare.

The actress from Scary Movie revealed that her family experienced carbon monoxide poisoning while staying at a rented house during Thanksgiving in 2019, and explained how they managed to survive.

Faris mentioned a legal issue prevented him from sharing details, but on the June 4th episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he did state that carbon monoxide is both odorless and dangerous.

AnnaSophia Robb, who married Michael Barrett in 2021, shared that she, her husband, and about a dozen family members rented a house in Lake Tahoe, California, for the 2019 holidays. They had all the heaters on and kept the windows shut.

Things got worse when she and her family, particularly her dad, started feeling unwell. The actress explained they had headaches, felt tired and sluggish, and generally felt the opposite of energetic and happy.

Okay, so at first, Faris – she’s amazing, by the way, 49 years young! – and her family thought they were just feeling rough from the altitude and maybe a little too much fun the night before. But honestly, even they quickly realized something was seriously wrong. You could just tell, even from what they’ve said! It wasn’t just a hangover; something was up, and they knew it.

After a while, Faris’s mother convinced her father, who was already unwell, to see a doctor at the hospital.

The actor, recalling an emergency room visit at Lake Tahoe, explained that doctors wisely checked the patient’s carbon monoxide levels.

She went on to say that she and her husband quickly fell unconscious, and were woken up by firefighters shaking them. She vaguely remembers a firefighter telling her how fortunate she was, and described the whole experience as terrible.

Since the incident happened, Faris, who shares 13-year-old son Jack with her ex-husband Chris Pratt, says her family now takes steps to prevent it from happening again. They always travel with a portable carbon monoxide detector to stay safe.

However, Faris noted that concerns remain even years after the incident, as there’s limited research on the lasting impact of carbon monoxide poisoning.

I remember when Dakota Johnson first shared what happened back in November 2019. I was so relieved to hear she and her family were okay, and she immediately made sure to publicly thank all the amazing first responders who helped them. It was a really touching thing to see.

She shared on X (formerly Twitter) that she didn’t know how to thank the North Lake Tahoe fire department, posting a picture of their Thanksgiving dinner. They had been saved from carbon monoxide poisoning, and while she called the situation dramatic, she was incredibly grateful.

After the incident, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District stated in a press release that Faris and her family were fortunate to have survived.

North Tahoe Fire Chief Mike Schwartz announced that a potential holiday disaster was thankfully avoided, according to People magazine. He emphasized the importance of being aware of your surroundings and making sure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are functioning properly in any location, whether at home or while traveling.

In May 2026, the host of the BFFs podcast had emergency surgery when doctors found a large cyst on her ovary. The cyst had twisted her internal organs and caused her to bleed internally.

After her surgery, Brianna explained in a TikTok video that doctors discovered about half a liter of blood inside her pelvic area. She said she had five cuts on her stomach, and the surgeons used a camera inserted through her belly button to locate the source of the bleeding.

Former Total Bellas star Nikki Bella shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit in the chest by fellow wrestler Piper Niven during a match in July 2025.

She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, that they would eventually get the issue resolved. Lupita Nyong’o received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her role in 12 Years a Slave.

She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.

She explained that many girls are taught to expect pain with their periods and to accept it as a normal part of womanhood. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and feeling isolated.

Okay, so this is something I’m seeing more and more with my clients – and it just happened to one of my favorite actresses! She recently shared that she had to be hospitalized because of a hernia, and the surprising cause? Tight pants! Basically, a hernia is a little gap that can develop in your abdominal or groin muscles, and squeezing yourself into super-restrictive clothing can unfortunately contribute to it. It’s a good reminder that comfort and health should always come first, even when it comes to fashion!

Someone messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter) asking why she hadn’t tweeted recently. Suki replied, jokingly suggesting the reason was a hernia she got six months ago from wearing very tight pants, and that she’d been afraid to mention it.

In April 2025, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star shared that he was recovering from surgery to repair a nearly burst appendix.

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

During a soccer game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle, a midfielder for Racing Louisville collapsed after only a few minutes of play.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate supporting her, just before she collapsed. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.

Savannah received immediate medical attention on the field and was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests, according to a statement from the National Women’s Soccer League. They reported that she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 still cause him problems now.

“It’s been a really difficult time,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I’ve been experiencing spasms all over my body, and doctors told me recently that my condition was life-threatening.”

He explained that his pain is intermittent, and described having some physical imperfections, saying, “My body just has a few things that aren’t quite right.”

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He said he was in so much pain he had to crawl on his hands and knees, and the pain worsened during a recent RV trip with a friend.

He described a strange tingling sensation that still persisted in his knees and toes as of March 2025, sharing this on his Trading Secrets podcast. He explained that just a few weeks prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he couldn’t even do a squat, or even stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.

The comedian later posted on social media to explain that he hadn’t been feeling well due to food poisoning, but was now recovering.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday outing with her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a trip to go clay pigeon shooting when the incident occurred.

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. Brendan Rooney quickly helped her, checked her injuries, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within an inch of a direct hit.

The former Kim Possible star shared that a small piece of something got stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, but they’re keeping a close watch on the situation. Thankfully, their vision is currently normal.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared her deep love for her daughters, husband, family, and friends, explaining that facing a life-threatening situation made her realize how precious life is. She urged everyone to cherish their loved ones and hug them often, because things can change unexpectedly.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, even though it can be harsh, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffy” during interviews, people online began commenting, and surprisingly, doctors chimed in, expressing concern she might have Cushing syndrome. This led Amy to realize the steroid injections she’d received after a breast reduction and C-section could be the cause. She wouldn’t have known about the condition without the online comments. Amy recently shared that she’s relieved to have a form of Cushing syndrome that will resolve on its own and that she is healthy, calling it “the greatest news imaginable.”

During a game in December 2024, an AHL player was accidentally cut in the face by another player’s skate and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly started having stroke-like symptoms, unable to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although the symptoms eventually passed, she went to the hospital for tests. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA, or transient ischemic attack. Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot had moved through this hole and caused the TIA. Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it had become increasingly difficult to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better, adding that it had been a frightening experience, but he was going to be okay.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he suffered a severe headache one day while in Atlanta. He asked for aspirin, but passed out before he could take it and doesn’t remember the next twenty days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. Doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star shared that she briefly stopped breathing while running in the first challenge of the NBC competition show, describing the experience as feeling like ‘dying’.

She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling as though she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then experienced a bright light, which led her to realize she had died that day.

She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a sudden, severe headache during a workout. She described collapsing and being violently ill, quickly realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan revealed she’d suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain – due to a ruptured aneurysm. She underwent immediate surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering incoherently.

Though she recovered and was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she’s “at a hundred per cent.”

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, is thankful for the support of her family. In January 2024, she suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, who quickly came to her aid. She told TopMob News reporter Will Marfuggi in December 2024 that they were all there for her. While she could have gone home after the stroke, other health issues – including lupus and kidney problems – kept her hospitalized longer than expected. Cori is now recovering well. She says she’s doing great and has regained most of her motor skills after some rehabilitation.

Oh my gosh, I was so heartbroken hearing Shailene talk about everything she went through in her early twenties! It sounds absolutely awful. She said she got to the point where she was losing her hearing and couldn’t even walk for five minutes without needing to sleep for hours! Can you imagine? And everything she ate caused her pain! It was just a mess of different diagnoses and doctors telling her different things. She’s always been so into holistic health, studying herbalism, so she took it into her own hands, working with both traditional doctors and healers, desperately trying to find some peace. It wasn’t a quick fix, either – it took a full ten years! She explained how the physical discomfort led to so much more – a real fear of food, and then this whole spiral into body dysmorphia and questioning who she even was. It’s just…so relatable, even though she’s Shailene Woodley! But the best part is, she’s finally feeling so much better! She said the issues physically resolved themselves and she’s healthy now, and honestly, I’m just so happy for her! It’s such a relief to hear her say that after everything she battled.
