Ariel Winter and Luke Benward are stepping into a new chapter solo.

Ariel Winter confirmed on May 14th that she and her boyfriend, whom she started dating almost six years ago, had broken up.

She commented on People magazine’s Instagram post that despite not being a romantic match, he remains a close friend and wonderful coparent to their dog. She added that she still values their time together and is a big fan of his!

This news arrives over a year after Ariel revealed the key to their successful relationship.

She explained to TopMob News in October 2024 that while many factors contribute to a successful partnership, a strong friendship is the most important. She believes this solid foundation allows partners to overcome challenges together.

But the 28-year-old also knew that it took work for any modern love story to thrive.

She explained that for her, a strong relationship needs more than just love. Respect and effort are essential too. You can’t just rely on feelings; you have to actively work at it. And she truly believed their relationship had all those important qualities.

Two years after the TV show Modern Family finished in 2020, actors Ariel and Luke decided to leave the Hollywood scene and move to Nashville for a more relaxed lifestyle.

She explained that she was feeling anxious when she made her decision in 2022. But when this new opportunity came along, she thought it might be exactly what she needed. She was going through a period of change and really wanted to focus on healing and personal growth, and this felt like the right step to move forward.

And it turns out, going down south was exactly what the Sofia the First actress needed.

She said the move has been a wonderful experience, encouraging her to try new things she wouldn’t have considered before. It’s really broadened her horizons.

Like Ariel’s decision to move, she’s always waited for the right moment to take her next leap.
