The upcoming movie Avengers: Secret Wars will be shown in IMAX theaters when it releases in 2027, which avoids a potential issue that Avengers: Doomsday is currently facing with IMAX availability. This was announced during an IMAX earnings call on Thursday.
However, the new Avengers movie, opening this December, won’t have the same advantage. Dune: Part Three, also releasing on that day, has taken priority for IMAX showings, meaning Avengers will miss out on that premium format.
Avengers: Secret Wars Scores IMAX Release
The confirmation that Avengers: Secret Wars will be released in IMAX is significant, especially since Avengers: Doomsday won’t have that option, which could negatively affect its ticket sales. Nowadays, with fewer people visiting theaters regularly, strong box office numbers often depend on dedicated fans being willing to spend more for premium viewing experiences like IMAX.
Strong box office numbers are also thanks to dedicated fans who are seeing these movies again and again in theaters. This is why there’s a special event called “Dunesday,” where Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three will compete for repeat viewers during the December holidays and into the new year.
