Noah Hawley recently announced he’ll be leading the creative direction for both the upcoming Far Cry series and the second season of Alien: Earth. While excited about both projects, he acknowledged the challenge of managing them simultaneously. “I’ll be juggling two shows at once, so you have to prioritize,” Hawley explained. As a result, he won’t be directing any episodes of Alien: Earth Season 2 and will only direct the first two episodes of Far Cry.

Though some movie fans prefer Blade Runner to Aliens, the 1986 film Aliens quietly became a blueprint for countless science fiction movies that came after it. As it marks its 38th anniversary, Aliens truly deserves recognition as a landmark sci-fi sequel.

As a lifelong Michael Jackson fan, I’m incredibly excited about the new biopic. It’s amazing they cast Jaafar Jackson – Michael’s nephew – to play him! The supporting cast is fantastic too, with names like Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, and even Mike Myers. Antoine Fuqua directed it, and the script is by John Logan, so it’s got a really solid creative team behind it. I’ve heard it’s already selling a ton of tickets, both here in North America and internationally. It’s a little frustrating, though, that the film seems to avoid addressing the serious allegations that came out later in Michael’s life; I wish they’d tackled that part of his story as well.

The Godfather trilogy – The Godfather, The Godfather Part II (1974), and The Godfather Part III (1990) – tells the story of the powerful Corleone family and their criminal activities. Marlon Brando is unforgettable as Don Vito Corleone in the first film, but the series primarily follows the dramatic changes in his son, Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino. These films by Francis Ford Coppola are considered masterpieces, though some elements of this epic gangster saga may feel different or more challenging for modern audiences than they did in the past.

In the episode “Dirty Business”, The Boys faced criticism for trying to make light of a scene where Hughie was sexually assaulted. Viewers understandably expressed their anger, and unfortunately, Hughie experienced a similar traumatic situation again in the following episode.

The new comic series, described as a blend of Aliens and Dante’s Inferno, launched on April 22nd. It takes place 200 years after the original movie featuring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, and Joely Richardson. According to IDW Publishing, a billionaire is sending a fleet of ships to the wreckage near Neptune, determined to uncover the secrets of the Event Horizon – even if it means sacrificing his workers.

While the idea behind Widow’s Bay isn’t particularly original, that’s actually one of the show’s strengths. This horror comedy centers on Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), the mayor of a small, somewhat rundown island town in New England. Located 40 miles off the Massachusetts coast, Widow’s Bay lacks modern conveniences like cell service or wifi, but it’s overflowing with local ghost stories and tales of horror. It seems like every bad thing imaginable – whether caused by nature or something supernatural – has happened there, and the townspeople believe it’s all due to a long-standing curse.

Roadside Attractions and Saban Films have obtained the rights to release the film Buddy in North American theaters, as first reported by Deadline. The movie, starring Cristin Milioti of How I Met Your Mother, will premiere on September 4th, joining a busy weekend for new film releases.

These projects aren’t necessarily unenjoyable, but they’ve moved away from the core of the spy genre. Instead of trained professionals, we often see characters who are more like amateur heroes. This shift often reduces tension and doesn’t show the careful planning and dedication it takes to succeed. In contrast, Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal emphasizes the detailed process of espionage and assassination, making how things are done more important than the result itself.

We still don’t know exactly what the final game will be like, but recent leaks revealing discarded plans suggest a major shift in its development happened at some point. We’re learning more about what the game won’t be, even if the specifics of what it will be are still unclear.
