IDW Publishing is releasing the long-awaited sequel fans have been hoping for. The story kicks off with a surprising reveal: a character from the first film actually survived! Lieutenant M.K. Starck is now embarking on a thrilling new mission.
The new comic series, described as a blend of Aliens and Dante’s Inferno, launched on April 22nd. It takes place 200 years after the original movie featuring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, and Joely Richardson. According to IDW Publishing, a billionaire is sending a fleet of ships to the wreckage near Neptune, determined to uncover the secrets of the Event Horizon – even if it means sacrificing his workers.
New Event Horizon Sequel Reveals Lt. Strack Survived The Mayhem
I just checked out Event Horizon: Inferno, and the art by Rob Carey is seriously cool. It feels like it pulls inspiration from those big sci-fi movies we all love, and the first issue jumps right into the story. Basically, this super-rich bad guy, Daniel Durante, is obsessed with becoming immortal and bringing his brother back to life – and he’ll do anything to make it happen. It’s a wild ride from the start!
When Durante and his team arrive at the crashed spaceship, the Event Horizon, they accidentally unleash the evil forces within. To their surprise, they discover Lieutenant Starck is still alive and determined to destroy the demons haunting the ship.
IDW isn’t revealing much about what happens next in the Inferno storyline. Details for the second issue, coming out June 3rd, remain vague. The third issue, scheduled for July 1st, offers a cryptic clue: “Hell is a loop to be experienced again and again,” suggesting Strack’s fate might be more complicated than it seems.
IDW Has Already Delivered an Exciting Event Horizon Prequel in 2025
So, I’m really excited about this new Inferno series – it’s picking up the story after the awesome 1997 movie! But it’s not totally out of the blue; IDW Publishing actually released a series last year that followed the crew of the Inferno ship. That one was short and sweet, only five issues, and wrapped up in February 2026. And the cool part? The writer, Ward, actually wrote that earlier series too, so he really knows this universe!
The film Event Horizon has gained a cult following after initially failing at the box office in the 1990s. Its story, about a rescue crew investigating the lost spaceship Event Horizon in the year 2047, has inspired numerous science fiction and horror movies since it was released.
Fans hoping for more of the story may only find it through comic book adaptations. Director Paul W.S. Anderson explained in 2020 that he intentionally chose not to revisit the franchise, saying he was proud of the dedicated fanbase it had gained and didn’t want to risk damaging the story they loved.
Event Horizon: Inferno #1 is now available from IDW Publishing.
