The anime adaptation of the popular manga Witch Hat Atelier finally premiered in Spring 2026 after facing production delays. Many viewers and critics agree it’s already the best fantasy anime of the year, thanks to its excellent storytelling and beautiful animation by BUG FILMS. The series is based on the acclaimed work by Kamone Shirahama, which has been published in Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine since 2016.
Crunchyroll has launched a companion podcast called Witch Chat for its new anime series, Witch Hat Atelier. The podcast will offer discussions and breakdowns of each episode as fans watch. It began on April 16th, 2024, shortly after the third episode aired, and is currently available on YouTube and Spotify. It will soon be available on Apple Podcasts and other podcast platforms. The podcast is hosted by content creator Lena Lemon and Crunchyroll’s Tim Lyu.
Witch Hat Atelier Captivates Fans With Gorgeous Visuals and an Exciting Story

Even after only three episodes, this anime has quickly become a fan favorite. It beautifully captures the detailed artwork of the original manga, which is no easy feat. The story takes place in a magical fantasy world where only certain people are born with the power to become witches. Though magic exists in everyday life, it’s not commonly used. Coco, a young woman who dreams of being a witch, works as a dressmaker for her mother, knowing she’ll likely never achieve her goal.
Her lifelong dream becomes a reality when she meets Qifrey, a skilled witch who visits her mother’s shop. After accidentally causing a big problem, she discovers a hidden truth about witches. Hoping he can help her track down someone using dangerous, forbidden magic, Qifrey invites her to join his workshop and offers her the chance to train as a witch herself.
The series follows a difficult path as the main character explores the dangerous world of witches. New episodes are available every Monday at 7:00 A.M. PT on Crunchyroll, with both subtitled and dubbed options. While the anime is also streaming on Netflix, it’s currently limited to select Asian countries, and a U.S. release date hasn’t been announced yet.
