Disney+ is becoming a strong contender for original fantasy shows, even launching a brand new franchise with one popular series. While Netflix leads the way in original streaming content, and Amazon Prime Video is a close second, Disney+ is sometimes considered to be behind because it often relies heavily on its existing, well-known movies and shows.
Okay, so it all makes sense when you think about it – Disney pretty much owns a ton of the biggest franchises out there, and they’ve bought up studios like 20th Century, Lucasfilm, and Marvel. It’s a huge advantage. But honestly, even though they don’t churn out a ton of new stuff, Disney+ has been really impressive with some of their originals. Take WandaVision, for example – it totally proves they’re focusing on making things that are genuinely good, even if it means less overall content.
WandaVision Is One Of The Most Underappreciated Disney+ Originals
For over ten years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was incredibly successful and consistently topped the box office, especially during what’s known as the Infinity Saga. More recently, though, its attempt to expand storytelling into television with the Multiverse Saga hasn’t been as well-received.
Look, I get it – nobody wants a million streaming services. Sometimes, with Disney+ just re-releasing a bunch of old favorites, it feels like one I could easily live without. But then you get something like WandaVision, and it totally proves why the subscription is worth it. It’s those kinds of shows that really make it special.
This fantasy series is truly captivating. It cleverly blends a nostalgic trip through classic sitcoms with a magical storyline, revealing Wanda Maximoff – the Scarlet Witch – slowly realizing she’s been living in a dream world created as a way to cope with her loss.
WandaVision Spawned A Mini Franchise Of Its Own Inside The MCU
Even though WandaVision was excellent on its own, the show also created some incredibly interesting characters who deserved their own stories. This led to Agatha All Along becoming a surprising hit – many people didn’t expect much, but it quickly became a beloved series about a group of witches searching for the truth.
The story doesn’t end with WandaVision. The film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continues Wanda Maximoff’s journey, acting as a direct sequel. Plus, a new series called VisionQuest is coming out on October 14th, picking up Vision’s story after the events of WandaVision.
These shows, though part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, have successfully built their own distinct and engaging franchise. They feature compelling characters, ongoing storylines, and have made a lasting impact that will likely be felt in future Marvel projects.
Wanda Maximoff’s Story Isn’t Over Yet
Even though Wanda Maximoff’s storyline seems to have reached a conclusion, she’s still a very popular and interesting character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plus, Elizabeth Olsen’s acting as Wanda has been highly acclaimed, and many viewers would welcome her back in future projects.
Fans have been buzzing with theories about how Wanda Maximoff might return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With big team-up movies like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon, speculation is high about a possible Wanda appearance before this chapter of Marvel stories concludes.
Considering VisionQuest is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ several months before Avengers: Doomsday, it’s likely we might see the Scarlet Witch’s story explored again. However, this is just a guess at this point.
For now, WandaVision will have to hold us over, and luckily, it’s a fantastic show with lots of potential for future stories through sequels, spin-offs, and continued exploration within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
