Matt Smith, known for his roles in Doctor Who and House of the Dragon, will next appear in a new mystery-thriller called The Salamander Lives Twice, alongside Imogen Poots.
Deadline reports that Smith will star as a mysterious man who appears on a secluded island. He’s well-dressed, sporting a Rolex watch, and carries a locked briefcase, but has no recollection of his identity or how he got there.
On the island, he’s welcomed by the only people who live there: Iris, a sophisticated woman who enjoys wine, her intelligent daughter Goggy (Poots), and their large, nude butler named Baby.

He finds himself pulled into their strange and crumbling reality, but it’s not by chance. What starts as a safe haven quickly becomes something much more unsettling and dangerous, filled with hidden grudges, cruel family secrets, and brutal acts.
Toby Harvard wrote the screenplay for the new film, and Ant Timpson will direct. They previously worked together on the 2019 black comedy Come to Daddy and the 2024 adventure comedy Bookwork, both featuring Elijah Wood.
We don’t yet know which actors will be joining Smith and Poots in the movie, but producer Archie Faulks calls it a thrilling and funny mystery – think Hitchcock meets quirky comedy and mind-bending suspense. He describes it as both wildly entertaining and sophisticated.
He explained that the story will keep viewers engaged and surprised until a shocking and memorable conclusion.

Smith and Poots have both been actively working recently. Last year, Smith starred in the Nick Cave TV adaptation, The Death of Bunny Monroe, and also appeared in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing.
He’s returning as Daemon Targaryen for the third season of House of the Dragon and will also be the villain in next year’s Star Wars film, starring Ryan Gosling.
Florence Pugh, known as Poots, received a lot of positive attention for her performance in Kristen Stewart’s first film as a director, ‘The Chronology of Water,’ last year. She’s also recently appeared in the films ‘Hedda’ and ‘All of You’.
