Okay, so Bungie’s Marathon isn’t a total flop for Sony, which is a relief. But it sounds like Haven Studios’ Fairgame$ is still having some issues. I’m hearing from Insider Gaming that a recent alpha test – they let people try out a mode called Cargo Heist, which is supposed to be an extraction shooter – didn’t really click with players. Basically, people weren’t super impressed with what they played.
Early looks at the game showed a map set in a mansion, designed for four teams of three players to battle it out. It appears players will be able to move around in new ways, like running on walls and using a grappling hook, and the game’s visuals are leaning towards more realistic colors. However, players on Discord gave a lot of negative feedback about how the characters move, the different classes available, and the non-player characters in the game.
Honestly, it’s getting pretty worrying. I’ve been hearing from people who tried the game that the playtests felt really short and unfinished – they said it was just… incomplete or boring. And it’s not like this is new feedback. What’s really concerning is how long we’ve been waiting – it’s been almost three years since they first announced it! Plus, key people like the founder, Jade Raymond, and the game director, Daniel Drapeau, have both left the studio in the past year. Everything is pointing to trouble, and I’m starting to lose hope.
Sony’s continued funding suggests they still believe in the project, though their track record with live service games isn’t strong. Helldivers 2 is a rare success, especially considering player numbers on Steam for Marathon are dropping. We’ll keep you updated as things develop.
