The third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is reportedly coming in 2027. A new rumor suggests Square Enix will reveal more about the game tomorrow, June 5th, during Summer Games Fest. While it’s unclear if a specific release date or timeframe will be announced, we might get an idea based on how Square Enix handled the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Fans will remember that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was first announced in June 2022, with an initial release window of Winter 2023. However, it ultimately launched on February 29, 2024 – the last day of that winter season. The “Winter 2023” timeframe actually referred to the winter period starting in 2023 and ending in 2024. Following this pattern, if Square Enix announces Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 this June, it’s likely to be released in Winter 2027, meaning sometime between December 2027 and February 2028.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 1
It’s hard to say this is a typical trend, considering Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced in 2015, five years before it actually came out. However, a few things explain this long wait. As the first game in the remake series, it naturally had a longer development period. More importantly, the game faced significant development challenges, eventually leading to a change in developers and a complete restart of the project.
Ultimately, how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is developed and released will likely give us a good idea of what to expect with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. However, this depends on development staying on track, and things don’t always go as planned.
Keep in mind that this information should be taken with a bit of skepticism. While the rumor comes from Nate the Hate, a reliable source, he’s only said the game will be revealed at Summer Games Fest. He hasn’t mentioned anything about when we can actually play it – no release date or even a general timeframe. So, everything beyond the reveal itself is just educated guessing.
