Jack Nicholson Celebrates 89th Birthday in Rare Pic With Joni Mitchell

Jack Nicholson spent his birthday with a few good women. 

Jack Nicholson, who hasn’t been seen much in public for the last ten years, celebrated his 89th birthday with his daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, and close friend, Joni Mitchell.

Lorraine, Jack’s daughter with his former partner Rebecca Broussard, recently posted a photo of her father on Instagram to celebrate his 89th birthday.

In the photo, Jack—who is also the father of Jennifer Nicholson (62), Caleb Goddard (55), Honey Hollman (43), Ray Nicholson (33), and Tessa Gourin (31)—appears cheerful, smiling and clapping with Joni.

Since finishing his last movie role in 2010’s How Do You Know, the actor best known for The Shining has largely stayed out of the public eye. He recently made a brief return to the spotlight at SNL 50: The Anniversary Special, where he introduced Adam Sandler.

Lorraine recently shared that her father was hesitant about attending the show’s special event. In an interview with W Magazine on March 27th, she explained that Lorne Michaels is a close family friend and really wanted her dad to be there. However, her father is now uncomfortable with public appearances, making it difficult to convince him to participate.

Despite some uncertainty, James L. Brooks, who has worked with Jack Nicholson for many years and directed him in several films, recently suggested that Nicholson might act in a movie again.

James told TopMob News at the Los Angeles premiere of Ella McCay in December that he expects the person in question to return to work, and he’s hoping they’ll collaborate with him again.

For now, Jack seems happy prioritizing his family, and his children sometimes share news about him. In December 2025, his daughter Lorraine posted a photo with him and his son Ray, showing how much they resemble each other.
