Leon Kennedy actor is “cautiously optimistic” for Resident Evil movie

Wow, Resident Evil Requiem is a massive success for Capcom – it’s seriously taken the series to a new level! It really makes you think about how disappointing some of the older Resident Evil movies were, and how the stories just seem to work so much better as video games. I totally agree with Ben Starr – a game like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 feels like the perfect way to tell a Resident Evil story.

A new Resident Evil movie is being made by Zach Cregger, who previously directed Weapons, and will star Austin Abrams as the main character.

Leon S. Kennedy is arguably the most recognizable hero in the Resident Evil series. At the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, TopMob spoke with Nick Apostolides, the actor now voicing Leon, to get his opinion on the upcoming movie adaptation.

I’m hopeful, but also a bit wary,” Apostolides said, explaining that he’s been disappointed before.

Apostolides feels confident about the project because Cregger is directing, stating that he believes Cregger won’t disappoint him.

Apostolides has long admired Cregger’s work and expressed confidence in his ability to create a quality film, while also incorporating elements from the Resident Evil franchise. He said he’s particularly eager to see how it all comes together.

Actor Ashleigh Morghan, who was present, admitted she enjoyed the Resident Evil movies. She felt the first one was particularly good, though she sees the films more as extra content related to the game rather than a strict adaptation. Ultimately, she found them entertaining.

At CinemaCon, director Craig Cregger debuted the trailer for the new Resident Evil film. According to producer Morghan, the trailer was well-received, with viewers noting a strong sense of suspense and praising it as a genuinely scary movie. She also suggested that the setting, Raccoon City, almost functions as a character itself.

Similar to Apostolides, Morghan believes Zach Cregger is a capable storyteller who understands the importance of the franchise and wouldn’t risk damaging something with such a long history and dedicated fanbase.

Morghan admits she’s hesitant about how the film will turn out, but she’s still looking forward to experiencing it through others, as she’s feeling apprehensive about watching it herself.
