The upcoming PS5 Pro version of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, called Resynced, will take full advantage of the console’s improved capabilities when it’s released on July 9th.
You can find more details here about how the game builds on Edward Kenway’s fantastic original story. It keeps the feel of the 2013 open world while improving the gameplay and adding new story elements.
In an interview with the PlayStation Blog, Ubisoft hinted at how the game will benefit from the PS5 Pro. They suggest significant improvements are coming, largely thanks to Sony’s upgraded upscaling technology, called PSSR2.
Technical Director Jussi Markkanen teased:
We were very impressed with the improved PSSR technology. It significantly enhances the visual quality of console games. Thanks to PSSR, we could create our detailed tropical environment – complete with swaying trees, intense storms, and large waves – without any noticeable blurring or pixelation, resulting in a clear and stable image.
Nicolas Lopez, a Technical Architect, explained that both PlayStation 5 and the upcoming PS5 Pro will see noticeable improvements. However, owners of the more powerful PS5 Pro will enjoy the best possible experience, with no compromises.
He explained:
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced improves ray tracing on both PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. The PS5 version offers more stable and consistent lighting, while the PS5 Pro provides the best possible visual experience with powerful ray tracing and upgraded PSSR technology.
The game is being completely remade with Ubisoft’s newest Anvil engine – the same technology that powered the impressive visuals and gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
This will result in more realistic character faces, smoother animations, and larger, more lively crowds. Plus, with the improved ray tracing technology, the game’s beautiful oceans will look especially stunning on PlayStation consoles.
We’ve always loved Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, so we’re thrilled to see it receive this upgrade. We’re particularly impressed by how well it seems to utilize the power of the PS5 Pro.
