The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is heading to the Grey Havens—with help from some friends.
Stephen Colbert will welcome friends Jon Stewart and Steven Spielberg on his final week of hosting his late-night show, which concludes on May 21st.
CBS has announced that Stephen Colbert’s show on May 18th will showcase some of the most memorable moments from The Late Show, but it won’t be a simple rerun of old clips. The following night, May 19th, Jon Stewart and Steven Spielberg will be guests, and the episode will also include a performance by Stephen Colbert and David Byrne of Talking Heads.
On May 20th, Stephen Colbert will feature his popular segment, the “Colbert Questionert,” alongside a performance by Bruce Springsteen. He hasn’t revealed who will be joining him for his final show on May 21st, promising a few surprises for viewers.
After hosting The Late Show for eleven seasons, Stephen Colbert is leaving. While the timing isn’t ideal, he’s still able to end his run in a way that aligns with his original plans.
Oh my gosh, he said in that Hollywood Reporter interview – it was published on May 6th, you HAVE to read it! – that if he’d done the show again, he’d just be a bit older. But the best part? He said it would have been HIS decision, and he’d probably have known how the whole thing was going to end much sooner! Can you imagine?! He deserves to have that control, honestly.
The comedian, age 62, revealed he’d chosen the date for the final episode of his old show, The Colbert Report, two years in advance.
He acknowledged that the timing of his departure from The Late Show wasn’t his choice. ‘We found out when it would happen, but it wasn’t immediate – it took a few months to finalize,’ he explained.

He jokingly suggested they might have given him the opportunity to continue the show because he had plenty of material poking fun at its potential ending. He explained that if he had been the one to cancel it, he’d be seen as the villain, making it difficult to tell those jokes.
The comedian, who shares three children – Madeleine, Peter, and John – with his wife, Evelyn “Evie” McGee-Colbert, already has his next project planned. He’ll be writing the script for a new movie adaptation of Lord of the Rings with his son, Peter. As a huge fan of the books, Colbert is thrilled about the opportunity.
I was so thrilled to hear him say that to Peter Jackson in a recent video! He told Peter how much the books and the films mean to me – and honestly, it really resonated. It’s amazing to know he feels the same way we do about Tolkien’s world.
