Highly Rated 2025 Action RPG Confirmed for Switch 2

The Summer Game Fest showcase on June 5th featured a lot of exciting updates on both upcoming and recently released games. The two-hour stream included brand new game announcements, release dates, and details on downloadable content. Capcom revealed its major expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, called Ascendance, which is slated for release in 2027, but that wasn’t the only announcement they had to make.

Shortly after the recent livestream, the official Monster Hunter Wilds account on X announced that the game is being developed for the Nintendo Switch 2. Surprisingly, this wasn’t mentioned in the Ascendance reveal trailer, which is a bit unusual. Capcom likely wanted to avoid overshadowing the announcement of their upcoming DLC. While Ascendance is scheduled to release in 2027, the release date for Monster Hunter Wilds on the Switch 2 is still unknown. Here’s a summary of what we currently know.

Monster Hunter Wilds Sets Sights on Switch 2 Release

Since its release last year, Monster Hunter Wilds has been playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It launched before the Nintendo Switch 2 was even announced, which recently marked its first anniversary. Now, Capcom seems to be planning to bring this latest Monster Hunter game to the Switch family of consoles. While many Monster Hunter spin-offs have appeared on Nintendo Switch before, bringing Wilds to the handheld system is a notable decision.

Players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have been having fun with Monster Hunter Wilds, and critics gave it a good score of 88 on Metacritic. However, the PC version has received a much more negative response, mainly because of ongoing performance problems that have persisted for over a year. Because of this, some gamers are surprised to hear that Wilds is also planned for release on the Nintendo Switch, which is known for being a challenging platform.

The original Switch had trouble running demanding games, but the Switch 2 is a significant improvement. Games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake now run well. However, since Monster Hunter Wilds is having performance issues on PCs, it will be interesting to see how it performs on the Switch 2. Currently, the game isn’t compatible with the Steam Deck, so this would be the first time Monster Hunter Wilds is available on a handheld device. That’s potentially great news for players who want to play on the go, as long as the game runs smoothly on the Switch 2.

We don’t yet know when Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on the Switch 2. However, Capcom is developing the game for the platform and plans to release a large expansion, Ascendance, in 2027. It’s possible they’re aiming to release both Ascendance and the Switch 2 version of the game around the same time next year, or even together. For now, we’ll need to wait for more details about the Switch 2 release.
