The new Mortal Kombat movie has received a 71% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 93 reviews. This is the best score any Mortal Kombat film has ever gotten from critics. Previous films haven’t done as well: the original Mortal Kombat earned 44%, Mortal Kombat Annihilation only 4%, and the 2021 reboot reached 55%. The new film is the first in the series to be considered ‘fresh’ by Rotten Tomatoes critics.

It originally came out in September 2025, and it’s a really cool third-person action game with a big open world. The story drops you into this war-torn world full of supernatural stuff, and you’re left to explore. What’s really neat is that the game doesn’t hold your hand – there are no waypoints or traditional UI markers to guide you. You really have to discover things for yourself, which I think is awesome!
