Zootopia 2 First Look Revealed, Ke Huy Quan Cast as Villain

As a seasoned gamer and Disney enthusiast with a soft spot for animated features, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming release of Zootopia 2! The original film was a breath of fresh air, combining witty humor, captivating visuals, and thought-provoking themes that resonated with audiences worldwide.

Each year, the D23 exhibition returns, showcasing the newest previews and fresh material from the Disney universe. Whether it’s their live-action projects or animated endeavors, there’s something appealing to everyone. One of the most eagerly awaited productions is the sequel to “Zootopia,” titled “Zootopia 2.” The original film, which hit theaters in 2016 and starred the animated characters Judy Hops (played by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), was a massive success, grossing over $1 billion at the global box office on a budget of just $150 million. Notably, “Zootopia” also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

In early 2023, Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, declared their intention to produce follow-up films for several of their highly successful animated franchises such as Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia. During a Q1 earnings call, he shared, “I’m thrilled to let you know that we are working on sequels for some of our most beloved franchises: Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia.” He added, “We will be revealing more details about these projects soon, but this demonstrates our commitment to capitalizing on our unique and powerful brands and franchises.”

At D23, we got multiple sneak peeks at the upcoming movie, one of which was a fresh poster featuring Judy and Nick being pursued by numerous animals during what seems to be the Zootenial festivities. Additionally, new visuals unveiled that reptiles and marine mammals will feature in the new production, as sea lions and a pink walrus were depicted. The film’s setting appears to be along the coastline, with the presence of marine life providing a clue, and various elements such as the Marsh Market and other shops further suggesting this.

Moreover, it’s been announced that Ke Huy Quan, known for his roles in “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “Loki”, will be joining the cast as Gary – one of the characters rumored to be reptiles. Intriguingly, the logo for “Zootopia 2” features a snake-like tail at the bottom of the number “two”, which seems to suggest that this could be Quan’s character.

In the animated movie “Zootopia,” Judy, a trailblazing rabbit police officer, initially faces challenges when it comes to managing animals, contrary to appearances. She partners with Nick on a perplexing case to establish her credibility, but he complicates matters further. By the film’s end, Judy is esteemed in the department, and Nick follows suit, becoming Zootopia PD’s pioneering fox officer. In 2022, Disney introduced an animated series titled “Zootopia+,” showcasing characters like Fru Fru, a trendy arctic shrew; Clawhauser, the affable cheetah dispatcher with a sweet tooth; and Flash, the enigmatic sloth who continually surprises.

Almost ten years since its first release, “Zootopia 2” is expected to premiere in cinemas on November 26, 2025. Keep an eye out here on ComicBook for the latest news and developments!
