Watch Everybody Still Hates Chris Premiere Clip (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more sitcoms than I can count on my fingers, let me tell you, the return of Julius from Everybody Still Hates Chris is like finding that last golden chest in an epic quest. The humor, wit, and relatability are still there, but with a fresh, animated twist.

Julius is still lecturing, and Everybody Still Hates Chris. Nearly 20 years after Terry Crews first played the hard-working, penny-pinching father of a young Chris Rock (Tyler James Williams) on the live-action sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, the Crews-voiced Julius is back — in animated form — in the new adult animated comedy, which airs its two-episode series premiere Sept. 25th at 10pm ET/PT on Comedy Central.

In a sneak peek from episode 2, titled “Everybody Still Hates Block Parties,” Julius scolds Chris (portrayed by Tim Johnson Jr.) and his buddy Greg (Gunnar Sizemore) over issues of fairness as Chris has to work while the neighborhood block party is underway.

“Hey, Mr. Chris’s dad, why does Chris have to work when everyone else has fun? It’s not fair,” Greg says before Chris covers his mouth. Grilling Greg until he runs away, Julius asks, “Is it fair that they call it the World Series when it’s just teams from North America? Is it fair that Neil Armstrong got to walk on the moon, but Michael Collins had to stay in the Command Module?” After a concerned Chris points out he should go after Greg because he’s white and “something could happen to him,” Julius responds, “Like what? He’s going to get approved for a loan?”

According to Sizemore, Greg prioritizes what he perceives as ‘fair’ only when it’s advantageous for him. This is evident in the preview we’re showing you. He finds this character fascinating because Greg craves attention so intensely while being oblivious to his environment. Working with such a gifted cast and crew, the comic potential for a character like Greg seems boundless.

The animated revival of “Everybody Hates Chris,” narrated by Dwayne Johnson, is grounded in tales from his childhood, spent as a skinny nerd in a working-class family residing in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, during the late 1980s. In this adaptation, Terry Crews portrays Julius, a hardworking giant with frugality as his second nature, juggling three jobs and keeping track of every penny’s worth. Tichina Arnold reprises her role from the original series as Rochelle, Chris’ determined and no-nonsense mother. Ozioma Akagha lends her voice to Tonya, Chris’ spirited little sister who is daddy’s girl, while Terrence Little Gardenhigh voices Drew, the family’s golden child, embodying Black Excellence with his good looks, athleticism, charm towards ladies, and a coolness that surpasses his older brother Chris.

Notable actors returning to their previous roles are Tisha Campbell (famously known for her role in “My Wife and Kids”) as Juanita “Peaches” Clarkson, Paul Ben-Victor (recognized from “Pam & Tommy”) as Coach Roy, Mike Estime (remembered for his part in “Last Holiday”) as the street-dealing bootlegger Risky, Antonio Fargas (who played a memorable character in “Foxy Brown”) as Chris’ boss, Doc Harris, Kevontay Jackson (best known from “Dear White People”) as Jerome living across the street, Jacqueline Mazarella (known for her role in “Are We There Yet?”) as Chris’ former teacher turned principal Ms. Morello, and Ernest Thomas (who starred in “What’s Happening!!”) as the smooth-talking ladies man Mr. Omar.

In the first season of this series, we have several distinguished actors lending their voices to the show. These include Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri from “The Bear”, Todd Bridges known for “Diff’rent Strokes”, Sam Richardson recognized for “Ted Lasso”, Jaylen Barron famed in “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez”, Eugene Cordero of “Marvel’s Loki”, Nicole Byer starring in “Big City Greens”, Ron Funches from “The Great North”, Gabriel Iglesias known for “Mr. Iglesias”, Phil Lamarr who is popularly recognized as the voice of “Futurama”, Lindsey Stoddart from “Bob’s Burgers”, Cree Summer known for “The Patrick Star Show”, Grammy-nominated musician Busta Rhymes famous for “The Boondocks”, comedian Rickey Smiley from “The Rickey Smiley Show”, Sally Jessy Raphael, the host of Sally, and Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe, collectively known as the R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe.
